Some of the brightest and most talented girls in Mississippi are in Meridian for the state Distinguished Young Woman program. The winner will represent the state in the national DYW competition.

The girls are also involved in community service. Tuesday, they visited Aldersgate to entertain and visit with residents.

“We came here this morning to share a little bit of our talent and some of our time with the patients and the residents here at the Aldersgate community home,” said Meg Thomas, Leake County’s DYW. “We’re really enjoying it and we love doing community service and I think it’s great that we get to give back to the community of Meridian because they’re giving so much to us this week.”

Preliminary rounds will be held Thursday and Friday nights. The finals are Saturday night. All events are at Evangel Temple.
