Boswell Media’s Mississippi Songwriter of The Year contest is giving local artists a chance to highlight their musical talents.
A panel of elite music industry judges listened to and read the lyrics to all submitted songs in the famous Wishbone Studio in Muscle Shoals, AL.
Fifteen finalists have been chosen and each will perform at Marty’s Blues Cafe in Philadelphia on July 1.
“We had producers at the studio [in Muscle Shoals] that went through the songs and picked our 15 finalists,” says Milner.
The finalist chosen to perform:
Josh Jolly – (Philadelphia, MS) – “It Ain’t Easy”
Dylan Davis – (Kosciusko, MS) – “Lovin’ Me, Lovin’ You”
Addie Page – (Corinth, MS) – “Lord, I Need You Now”
Bo Denton – (Meridian, MS) – “Fool Tonight”
Joseph Plunkett – (Pelahatchie, MS) – “Song Bird”
Jack Harper – (Leland, MS) – “Ode to Billy Ray”
Krissy Long – (Philadelphia, MS) – “The Crow”
Justin Snow – (Stallo, MS) – “Don’t Wish Your Life Away”
Paul Wells – (Stallo, MS) – “Blue River”

Kegan Humphries – (Louisville, MS) – “Slip Away”
Alexis Turnipseed – (Weir, MS) – “I’ve Gotta Fly”
Collin McLeod – (Mize, MS) – “The Problem”
These finalists will perform in front of top writers and producers in the music industry and one aspiring musician will get a shot at topping the charts and having their song recorded at Wishbone Studios.
“This is going to kind of give them that stepping stone,” says Milner. “Regardless if they win or not, all the songs were heard by the producers like Johnny Belew in Muscle Shoals.”
