Basketball action continued today in Decatur at Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium during the second and final day of the “Toys for Tots” EC Classic. The Warrior Ladies and Men’s teams closed out the last two games of the Classic on their home court. The Lady Warriors were first up to face the Lady Tigers of Coahoma Community College from Clarksdale. The Lady Warriors entered the game 4-0 on the season while the Lady Tigers entered 3-3 on their season. The Men’s team record on the season entering tonight’s game, the Warriors 4-0 and the Tigers 2-4.
The Lady Tigers scored the first points of the game and stayed close to the Lady Warriors throughout the first quarter with the Warriors leading by 5 points when the horn sounded. The Lady Warriors pulled out to an 8 point lead during the second quarter leading the game 34-26 at halftime. In the second half, the Lady Warriors improved their lead to 15 points over the Lady Tigers, 57-42 and went on to win the game by 13 points, 75-62. With tonight’s win, the Lady Warriors improve to 5-0 on the season.
The Men’s teams were next to take the hardwood and it was a hard fought contest from start to finish. The Warriors would lead the game by 13 points when the horn sounded to end the first half of play. In the second half, the Coahoma Tigers would start cutting into the Warriors lead drawing to within 4 points of the Warriors at one time in the half. The Warriors would battle back out to an 8 point victory when the final horn sounded giving them a 75-67 victory and improving their season record to 5-0. Both Warriors teams finish the EC Classic with a clean sweep in all the games in which they participated.
