The Leake Academy Basketball teams kicked off the start of the 2019 season with road games in Columbus playing Heritage Academy this afternoon. The Rebelettes were first on the hardboard to face the Lady Patriots. The Rebelettes enter the game with an 18-1 overall season record while the Lady Patriots entered 1-4 on the season. The Rebelettes had a slow start to open the contest and found themselves trailing by 7 points at the end of the first quarter of play, 11-18. The Rebelettes slump ended along with the first quarter as they would out score the Lady Pats 28 to 6 in the second quarter to take a 38-24 lead at halftime. In the third quarter, the Rebelettes continued to put distance between them and the lady Patriots taking a 54-31 lead into the final quarter. The Rebelettes won the game by the final score of 74-49 to pickup their 19 victory against one loss on the 2018-2019 season.
The Rebels and Patriots were next on the floor to play their first game of the new year. The Rebels entered today’s game 3-1 on the season while the Patriots enter 6-1. The Rebels fall behind the Patriots by 7 points in the opening quarter trailing 12-5. The Patriots continued to extend their lead in the second quarter and were trailing by 9 points at halftime, 25-16. The Rebels would come storming back in the third quarter outscoring the Patriots 18 to 8 to take a 1 point lead in the game, 34-33. During the final period, the Patriots regained the lead early in the quarter and were able to hold the lead through the quarter winning the game by 10 points over the Rebels, 56-46.
