The East Central Community College Warriors began South Division MACJC football tonight at home in Decatur playing the Southwest Community College Bears from Summit. The Warriors entered tonight’s game 1-1 overall on the season coming off a road win last week against then #14 nationally ranked Itawamba Indians,  after losing a close opening game against the #6 team in the nation on the road at Senatobia. The Bears of Southwest also enter tonight’s contest 1-1 overall.

In the first quarter, the Bears put the first points on the board with a touchdown with just over 3 minutes remaining to take a 7-0 lead in the game, however the Warriors quickly responded  scoring on a 62 yard run by James Smith III. The PAT for the Warriors was unsuccessful and the Bears were leading by one point at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was all Warriors, scoring two touchdown and a two point conversion to take a 21-7 lead at halftime.

In the second half, it was a defensive battle in the third quarter with no offensive points scored. The Bears added a touchdown early in the fourth quarter and the Warriors responded a few minutes later scoring  their 4th touchdown of the evening  to take a 28-13 lead in the game. The Bears scored again with less than two minutes remaining and picked up a two point conversion to cut the Warriors lead to only 7 points. The Warriors then fumbled the ball on the kickoff  giving the Bears the ball deep in the Warriors end of the field but the Warriors defense stepped up and prevented the Bears from scoring giving the Warriors the victory with a 28-21 win.
