The Leake Academy Rebels are at home for Senior night and their final regular season football game playing a District 2 AAA Conference game against the Volunteers of Starkville Academy. The Rebels enter tonight’s game 7-2 overall this season and 2-1 in district play while the Vols of Starkville Academy enter 8-1 overall and 2-1 in district play.
The Rebels won the toss and elected to defer until the 3rd quarter giving the Vols the ball to start the game, the Vols failed to score after moving the ball to the Rebels 1 yard line. The Rebels took the ball 99 yards down the field scoring on a 52 yard Sam Wilder run to give the Rebels a first quarter 7 point lead. The Rebels would score another touchdown in the second quarter but missed the PAT to go ahead of the Vols 13-0. The Vols would get on the board later in the quarter on a long run to cut the Rebels lead to 6 points and then score again minutes later to take the lead by 1 point, 14-13 at halftime.
In the second half, the Vols scored again early in the 3rd quarter but missed the PAT to go up by 7 points over the Rebels 20-13. No other points would be scored in the quarter as both defensive teams played tough. In the final quarter, the Rebels scored early on a Sam Wilder run to tie the game up at 20-20. Then with less than 10 seconds remaining in the game Rebels kicker Cameron Brown kicked a 32 yard field goal to give the Rebels a 3 point lead in the game with only two seconds remaining. The Rebels kicked off to the Vols and the ball was fumbled while the Vols attempted to lateral the ball and was picked up by Ryan Atkinson who took the ball to the end zone for another Rebels touchdown giving the Rebels a 29-20 win. Cameron Brown and Zac Kemp were named tonight’s In Sports Players of the Game.
