The Neshoba County Board of Supervisors was recently awarded two different grants for purchase of body armor for the Sheriff’s Department and disposal of Waste Tires.
The Mississippi Department of Public Safety’s Division of Public Safety Planning awarded $3,750 to the Neshoba County Board of Supervisors for use by the Neshoba County Sheriff’s Department to purchase eight (8) new sets of body armor or bulletproof vests. This is a matching grant and $5,000 is allocated toward the acquisition of the new body armor by the Sheriff’s Department. The Sheriff recently enacted a mandatory wear policy for Deputies which is part of the criteria in being eligible for this grant. The grant will replace older, worn sets of body armor that are reaching their end of use and shelf life.
The Neshoba County Board of Supervisors was also awarded a $40,000 grant from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality for disposal of waste tires produced by small waste tire generators. This is a two year grant that will provide reimbursement for the collection and disposal, through recycling, of waste tires collected at the Neshoba County Unit Facility. These grant funds are received from the waste tire tax generated when a new tire is purchased. Residents are encouraged to dispose of their waste tires properly by bringing them to the collection site at the Neshoba County Unit Facility Building located on Hwy 15 Bypass. The collection facility is open Monday through Thursday from 7:00 AM until 5:30 PM, on Friday from 7:00 AM until 3:30 PM and on Saturday from 7:00 AM until 12:00 noon.
