Candidate for
Sheriff of Leake County
“To the citizens of Leake County, I would like to say it has been an honor to serve as your Constable-Western District for over 19 years (five consecutive terms). With much deliberation and prayers, I would like to announce my candidacy for Leake County Sheriff.”
Randy W. Atkinson is a lifelong resident of Leake County. His parents are Kaye McElhenney Atkinson and (the late) Billy Joe Atkinson of the Singleton Community. He is married to Belinda McCrory Atkinson, she is the daughter of Elbert and Barbara McCrory of the Good Hope Community.
They have two children, a daughter Beth Sanders (spouse) Nathan Sanders of Four Corners, a son Dewayne Atkinson (spouse) Loren Stewart Atkinson of Mendenhall and five grandchildren; Rowan, Kadie-Beth, Ruston, Adalyn and Libby. He is an active member of Faith Independent Methodist Church where he serves as the Security Director and member of the Grounds Committee. He attended Carthage grade schools K-12, where he was involved in multiple sports and activities.
In 2000, he took his oath of office for Constable Western-District in Leake County, at which time he attended the mandatory Constable Training Academy at Meridian Community College. In 2010, he attended and graduated from training at MS Delta Law Enforcement Training Academy where he received his certificate for Basic Law Enforcement Training. During his five terms in office he has been an active member of the Mississippi Constable Association, where he was elected as Central Director on the Board of MCA. He has and currently serves on the Legislative Committee, the Grievance Committee, and the Budget and Finance Committee.
Over the course of his terms he has been a certified Taser Instructor. He has attended many schools and training sessions, to maintain his professionalism and abilities as a law enforcement officer. He also does a minimum of 24 hours mandatory training each year that is required by the state of Mississippi. Throughout the years he has supervised and managed security details, involving numerous officers, for businesses and corporations such as AT&T and Tyson Foods. He also managed and scheduled security details for the local school’s athletic and social events here in Leake County. While as Constable he has worked side by side with all law enforcement agencies within this County and throughout the state of Mississippi.
