Legion State Park is public recreation area located on the north edge of the city of Louisville, Mississippi, and adjacent to Tombigbee National Forest. As Legion State Park Historic District, the state park entered the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.

The Memorial Day Weekend is kicked off with the Friday Night Street Party followed by the Annual Red Hills Festival on Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend. The Festival showcases arts and crafts vendors that include handmade jewelry, candles, furniture, outdoor art, and much more. There are also a variety of food vendors to please everyone’s appetite! The Red Hills Car Show is a large car show with an average of 100 cars and trucks of all makes and models. With a variety of judging categories, you are sure to see unique and one of a kind entries each year. The 5K Run and Fun Run begins in downtown Louisville and offers awards for men, women and children.

Wings over Winston is an annual air show at the Louisville-Winston Airport and features historic WWII aircraft. The event is free to the public and offers shuttle service between parking areas and the airport. Participants can also take a ride in an open cockpit biplane with professional aircraft performers. Local businesses contribute to this free event to make it affordable for our citizens. Food vendors are on-site offering a variety of refreshments.

The historic theater in Downtown Louisville was constructed in 1923. The Strand hosts Grammy Award winner Carl Jackson’s Home for Christmas Concert each year. Currently, the theater is being fully renovated to provide a state of the art facility for arts and drama.

This 48,000-acre refuge consists primarily of bottomland and upland forests, and is home to a wide range of wildlife species. The Sam D. Hamilton Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge includes two major lakes: Bluff Lake, 800 acres in area, and Loakfoma Lake, at 400 acres. These and other water areas, such as four green-tree reservoirs, 16 small impoundments, and assorted wetland areas furnish habitat for bald eagles, wood storks, American alligators, and wintering waterfowl. Game species include quail, deer, and turkey, and hunting is allowed in certain areas. The endangered red-cockaded woodpecker can be found on the Refuge, and many neotropical birds live in the forests.
