Heavy Rain, Drain Blockage Cause Flooding, Wrecks in Carthage

CARTHAGE, Miss.–When the rain started come down at its heaviest about 3 p.m., Carthage Police reported flooding on Pearl St. One officer stayed there with his blue lights on to keep people from driving into the flood waters.

It was later discovered that a drain was blocked, keeping the water from receding.

Two wrecks were also reported while the heaviest rain was coming down:

One was on Hwy. 25, near the intersection with Hwy. 16. No injuries were reported. It was a one-car wreck.

Another was on Hwy. 35 south. No injuries were reported in that wreck, which was jus after 5 p.m.
