PHILADELPHIA, Miss.–A Walnut Grove man is under arrest after leading Neshoba County deputies and Philadelphia Police on a chase that sometimes reached or exceeded 100 mph Friday morning.
The chase began in the county shortly before 10:45 a.m. and once the car reached the city limits plans were made to try and stop the chase with spike strips. However the man was able to stay ahead of those plans, heading down Main St., Holland Ave., Beacon St., leaving the city limits again, despite a road block set up on Hwy. 21.
The Volkswagen Passat reached speeds of 100 mph again on Hwy. 488 at 427, while headed west, then wrecked at about 11:15.
Officers were able to take the man into custody.
Matthew LaMarcus Hardney, 31, of Walnut Grove, was arrested and charged with fleeing law enforcement, misdemeanor marijuana possession and traffic violations.
The car had been reported stolen from Texas. One handgun was found inside the car.
