CARTHAGE, Miss.–A Saturday night police chase that started in Leake County ended with one person in custody.

That chase started around 9:45 p.m. when a Leake County deputy reported that someone he had attempted to stop instead took off and was possibly armed.

The chase was down Hwy. 43, and when it got close to Madison County, deputies there were notified and were waiting near the intersection of highways 43 and 17 south of Camden, with spike strips.

Speeds were at more than 105 mph at points on the two-lane highway.

Though the spike strips did their job, the chase continued, with the suspect vehicle still reaching speeds of near 90.

The vehicle turned north onto Hwy. 17 and deputies notified Holmes County authorities that the chase might come into their county.

It didn’t quite get that far. The vehicle stopped before reaching Pickens and at 10 p.m. a Leake County deputy reported one person was in custody.

The charges have not yet been announced by Leake County authorities.
