If you’re hitting the highways for the holidays, at least filling up the gas tank shouldn’t bust your Christmas budget. AAA says pump prices are the lowest since 2020. The auto club says the average price across Mississippi is just under $2.49. But the auto club says gas is cheaper in eight other states that you may be traveling to during the holidays—including Tennessee, Arkansas and Texas. Arkansas’ average price is seven cents less than Mississippi, while in Tennessee, it’s about three cents cheaper. In Texas, expect to pay about five cents less. Louisiana’s average price for gas, on the other hand, is about a penny higher than Mississippi. Gas in Alabama is more than seven cents higher. We mentioned the statewide average in Mississippi of $2.49 but GasBuddy.com says the best bargain locally is in Carthage, where you can fill up for as little as $2.11 a gallon.
