Boswell Media’s Kicks 96.7 (WCKK-FM) was named Radio Station of the Year Saturday night at the Mississippi Association of Broadcasters “Excellence in Broadcasting” Awards held at the Old Capitol Inn in downtown Jackson.
In addition to the station’s top honor, Boswell Media owner Johnny Boswell received the prestigious Radio Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his decades of leadership and service to broadcasting in Mississippi.
Boswell Media stations WCKK, WLIN, and WKOZ earned a total of 20 awards across radio, news, sports, and multimedia categories during the annual ceremony.
Among the highlights of the night, Chris Davis of Breezy 103 (WLIN-FM) earned first place in Radio Anchor/Reporter, while Randy Bell of Cruisin’ 98.3 (WKOZ-FM) finished second in the same category.
Cruisin’ 98.3 (WKOZ-FM) also claimed first place in Breaking Weather for its coverage of the January 21 winter storm, along with first place in Newscast and first place in Use of Sound for its Hurricane Katrina 20th Anniversary feature.
Breezy 103 (WLIN-FM) earned first place honors in Multimedia for “Whippet Memories & Motivation: The Road to State”, as well as first place in Continuing Coverage for its coverage of the Ethel Girls Volleyball State Championship season.
In sports reporting, Breezy 103 (WLIN-FM) swept the Sports Story category, earning first and second place for “Kosciusko Football’s Big Game Sendoff” and “Homeruns for Wishes.”
Kicks 96.7 (WCKK-FM) also turned in a strong performance, earning first place awards for Commercial Announcement, Commercial Campaign, Radio Public Service Award, and Station Promotion, in addition to Brian “B’Mo” Montgomery being named Radio Personality of the Year.
