Deputy Sheriff Joshua Brashears
This is National Police Week, and in Jackson tonight, there’s a candlelight vigil at the Mississippi Fallen Officers Memorial Wall honoring all of those in law enforcement from across the state who’ve died in the line of duty….
“That’s our goal is to make sure they’re not forgotten…”
Ken Winter with the Mississippi Association of Chiefs of Police, which is co-hosting the event across the street from the State Capitol, says we all need a reminder about those law enforcement heroes…
“Every year during this week, it just refreshes not only the public but fellow officers of the sacrifices that some of their brothers and sisters have made…”
This year, one new name has been added to the wall….
“Deputy Sheriff Joshua Aaron Brashears. He was a Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputy. His end of watch was October 17th, 2025…”
He was killed when his patrol car crashed into some horses. And while Brashears is the only officer added this year, another Jackson County Deputy who was shot to death while responding to a disturbance call in Ocean Springs last month—Michael Jimerson– will be on the memorial wall next year, along with Lee County Deputy Rick Haggard who was struck and killed while directing school traffic in Shannon in February.
Another name that’ll be added next year is that of Jackson police officer Robert Washington who was shot to death while on duty more than 30 years ago.
