A former Carthage police officer is facing bribery and conspiracy charges. Police Chief Billy McMillan says he was made aware of a possible bribery incident involving one of his officers, Howard Cole, last November. McMillan says an internal investigation was launched but the chief says, recognizing the importance of transparency and accountability, the case was handed over to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. MBI says it’s had the case since April and says Cole was arrested on May 13th.
His bond was set at $30,000 on each of the two felony charges, bribery and conspiracy by a law enforcement officer.
