Major MDOT construction projects are moving forward across central Mississippi, with two significant infrastructure efforts in Neshoba County showing steady progress, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation.

SR 19 expansion continues in Neshoba County

One of the largest active projects in Neshoba County is the ongoing expansion of State Route 19 from House to Tucker.

The $97.4 million project will widen the highway from two lanes to four and includes construction of nine bridges, along with new northbound lanes and reconstruction of the existing roadway to serve as the future southbound lanes.

MDOT reports that five bridges are already complete, with two additional bridges currently under construction in the new northbound alignment. The final two bridges will be built after traffic shifts onto the new lanes.

All box culverts have been installed, while crews continue earthwork, clearing, grubbing, and material hauling. The project is being handled by W.G. Yates & Son Construction Company of Philadelphia and is expected to wrap up in spring 2028.

Roundabout work progressing in Philadelphia

Also in Neshoba County, construction continues at the State Route 15/16 interchange in Philadelphia, where a new roundabout is being built.

Phase I work, including bridge replacements at Weyerhaeuser Street and Lakeside Drive, has been completed. Phase II construction is also finished, and the traffic shift to the Phase III configuration occurred in May.

Remaining work is ongoing, and the nearly $9 million project, awarded to Cook & Son, LLC of Smithville, remains on schedule for completion in spring 2027.
