The town of Lena will celebrate Independence Day this Saturday, July 4, with a full day of family-friendly activities, live entertainment, food, and fireworks. A $200 prize will be given to the most patriotic dressed child under 12 years old. No coolers or alcohol allowed.
The following is a schedule of events for the Lena Hometown 4th of July Celebration:
- 11 am: Vendors open, children’s activities begin, car show begins, movie preview and music
- Classic Car Show featuring the Carthage Cruisers and other car clubs from across Mississippi
- Lena Fire Department will host children’s activities and provide snow cones
- Craft vendors and other attractions set up throughout town
- Local restaurants and vendors, including Ellis Farmer’s Market, C’s BBQ, and JukeBox Junction will be open throughout the day.
- A preview of the film “The Last American House Party” from 13 South Productions will be shown with live blues music in the company’s vintage downtown building
- 3 pm: Opening ceremonies begin and food trucks open at Main Stage
- Opening ceremonies held at the Main Stage at Fireworks Field
- Food trucks open at the Main Stage including Point Blank Grillin’, Gator’s Snow Cones, Ma & Pa’s Kettle Korn & Lemonade, and T & T’s Concessions.
- 3:30 pm: Blue Grass music by Rodney and Kathy Parker
- 4:30 pm: Watermelon Eating Contest
- 5:10 pm: Magic Show by Dorien LaChance
- 6:05 pm: Southern Gospel music with Matt Hill
- 7 pm: Veterans Program begins. Selections from “For God and Country” performed by Pine Grove Pentecostal Church
- 8 pm: Cornerstone Worship band performs
- 9 pm: Celebration concludes with a Fireworks Show by Pelahatchie Pyros
