As we wrap up the weekend and head into next week, we may be seeing our final episode of above-normal summer weather. A heat advisory has been posted today for mainly western Mississippi including Holmes and Carroll counties, where afternoon highs will be in the upper 90s with a heat index from 106 to 107. Durant could reach 100 Monday and Tuesday with the rest of the local area in the upper 90s.
The National Weather Service expects drier air to move into the state later in the week, allowing nighttime temperatures to drop into the upper 60s. And the following week, as fall officially gets underway, our afternoon temperatures may go no higher than the upper 80s.
