PHILADELPHIA, Miss.–Neshoba County District 5 Supervisor Obie Riley has died. His death was confirmed Saturday by multiple sources, including the Mississippi Democratic Party.
The cause of death was not reported.
Riley was serving his fifth term as a county supervisor. He took office in 2008.
He was also serving as chair of the Neshoba County Democratic Party Executive Committee.
Riley was well thought of among the Democratic Party in Mississippi. The following prepared statement was released Saturday by the Forrest County Democrats:
Obie was a true Democrat in every sense of the word. He was fearless, tenacious, committed, and unwavering in his dedication to the people and the causes he believed in. He served with conviction, spoke with courage, and never hesitated to stand up for his community. His presence will be deeply missed.
