CARTHAGE, Miss.–A burn ban is now in effect for Leake County, which means no outdoor burning for now.
The announcement was made Thursday afternoon by the Leake County Sheriff’s Office and the Leaqke County Firefighters Assoc.
“We are asking everyone to take this seriously and help protect our community,” said the post.
That means even avoiding what may be considered insignificant, like throwing cigarettes on the ground.
“The Leake County Sheriff’s Office, Leake County Firefighters Association, and Leake County Emergency Management are asking everyone to follow the burn ban and do their part to prevent unnecessary fires,” said Sheriff Rany Atkinson.
Leake County is the latest on a growing list of counties in Mississippi with burn bans.
