Elevated Fire Threat Comes With Dry and Windy Conditions

KOSCIUSKO, Miss.–An elevated danger for wildfires comes with the continued dry and windy conditions in our area, says the National Weather Service. No rain is in the immediate forecast to alleviate that threat.

“When we have drier air…and it’s prolonged like this, you begin to have more dry grounds and also the fuel that fuels fires,” said Ashlyn Jackson, Weather Service forecaster.

She said winds are also part of that threat.

“With the front moving through…it’ll increase winds, maybe 10 to 20 mph, sustained,” she said.

No rain is in the forecast at least through Monday.
