CARTHAGE, Miss.–A man was shot Friday night just before midnight, just inside the Carthage city limits.

A Carthage police officer was patrolling on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive at Williams Dt. at 11:54 p.m., when he told dispatchers that he was being flagged down.

“Bring EMS. We’ve got a gunshot victim, a gunshot victim!” that officer could be heard saying seconds later.

The man had been shot several times. The exact number of wounds was not known. An ambulance arrived just minutes later and the man was taken to Baptist Leake.

Additional help was called in from the Leake County Sheriff’s Department.

While officers were beginning their investigation at Williams and MLK, what sounded like more shots could be heard from Old Canton Rd. nearby. It was unclear if officers found anything when they responded to that area.
