WASHINGTON–Congressman Bennie Thompson, who represents the Mississippi Delta and Attala and Leake counties, in Washington, and who was head of the Jan. 6 Committee, told CNN he would accept a preemptive pardon from Pres. Biden, if it were offered.
“It’s his prerogative. If he offers it to me or other members of the committee, I think I would accept it. But, it’s his choice,” said Thompson in an interview late last week.
The comments come after Pres.-elect Donald Trump made comments indicating that he believes people involved with the Jan. 6 Committee should go to prison.
“We stand by the work of the Committee. Our committee did a wonderful job. We shared it with the public,” said Thompson.
He issued a prepared statement last week also defending the work of the Committee, saying he believes all of its work was lawful and above board.
