Leake County Emergency Management says conditions remain largely unchanged as the area stays in a transition zone where rain could turn into freezing rain before tapering off later this afternoon.

Temperatures are hovering around the freezing mark and are expected to continue dropping throughout the day. Leake County remains under an Ice Storm Warning until 6 p.m. today, along with an Extreme Cold Warning through 6 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Officials warn that temperatures will fall into the mid-teens Sunday night and struggle to reach freezing on Monday. Monday night lows are expected to remain in the teens as well.

Emergency Management officials caution that any remaining moisture on roadways could freeze today and tonight, leading to dangerous black ice conditions. Additional impacts may include frozen water pipes, power outages, and hazardous travel.

Residents are urged to stay off the roads, use caution if travel is absolutely necessary, and remain patient as crews and responders work through the winter weather event.
