Today marks 25 years since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that claimed thousands of lives and forever changed the United States of America.
On that morning, four commercial airplanes were hijacked. Two were flown into the World Trade Center towers in New York, and another struck the Pentagon in Virginia. A fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania after passengers and crew members fought back against the hijackers.
Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the attacks including hundreds of firefighters, law enforcement officers, other first responders, and ordinary people like you and me who simply went to work that morning like every other day.
In the days that followed, Americans came together in mourning and support for those affected. Twenty-five years later, we continue to honor the victims, survivors, first responders, military members, and families whose lives were forever changed by the events of September 11.
September 11 is observed each year as Patriot Day and a National Day of Service and Remembrance.
We remember those who were lost. We honor those who answered the call. We will never forget.
