AAA had warned us that the price of gas wouldn’t be coming down as fast as it went up. The auto club says during the first 20 days of the price increases which started at the end of February, the average in Mississippi shot up 96 cents or about 4.8 cents per day. The auto club says, now, the statewide average has fallen for 20 days in a row, almost 29 cents during that time, but that’s only about 1.4 cents a day, compared, again, to almost five cents a day as prices were going up.
This morning’s average price is about $3.73 statewide. The only county locally where gas is averaging less than that is Leake at $3.63. Attala County is now matching the statewide average at $3.73. The others are significantly higher at $3.84 in Carroll County, $3.85 in Montgomery County, $3.86 in Neshoba County, $3.87 in Holmes and Winston counties and $3.94 in Choctaw County. Those are countywide average prices. Individual stations as shown on the GasBuddy.com app can have much lower prices like $3.37 in Carthage this morning.
