Philadelphia Police Chief Eric Lyons has revealed new details in the investigation into recent shootings, where a gunman fired at passing vehicles. Investigators have been working with multiple agencies including the U.S. Attorney Generals Office, Homeland Security, and U.S. Prosecutors.
The suspect, initially identified as Jonathan Salvador of Mexico, was found through fingerprint analysis to be Fredy Antonio Amaya-Marin, a 39-year-old from El Salvador and a confirmed member of the MS-13 gang.
Amaya-Marin, who was deported in 2007 and re-entered the U.S. illegally, now faces eight counts of attempted murder, along with federal charges for illegal re-entry and firearm possession.
He is being held without bond and is under ICE custody for deportation. Amaya-Marin will be tried and serve time for his crimes in the U.S. before he is deported. Local and federal agencies continue to work together on the case.
