Two people were taken to the hospital on the evening of Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024 after being shot at a residence on Hwy 429 in an area between Harkins Rd. and Red Dog Rd.
Leake County Deputies were dispatched to the home at approximately 9:14 p.m. regarding a disturbance in progress there. They were also notified that the person causing the disturbance had threatened to use a firearm.
When deputies arrived on scene, they moved everyone who was outside the home to a safe area. Shortly thereafter, gunfire erupted from inside the home and multiple people bolted from inside the home followed by the assailant who was armed with an assault rifle. Two men who ran from the home had been shot, so deputies alerted EMS.
Deputies drew weapons when the assailant was seen with the assault rifle and eventually coaxed him into stepping in front of a vehicle that he was hiding behind. Deputies then safely apprehended the shooter, 25-year-old Malcon Devon Marshall.
Once Marshall was apprehended, Leake Deputies searched him and the vehicle he was hiding behind. A Ruger .380, three shell casings, two phones, two wallets, a small amount of cash, and some keys were found on Mr. Marshall. An assault rifle was found lying on the back of the vehicle.
The two men that Marshall shot were transported by ambulance to a Jackson hospital for their injuries.
Malcon Devon Marshall was transported to the Leake County Correctional Facility and was charged with two counts of Domestic Aggravated Assault.
