A proposed natural gas pipeline that would pass through Attala County and nearby areas has entered the federal review process.
The U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has started an environmental review of the Kosciusko Junction Pipeline, a 111-mile natural gas project planned across several Mississippi counties, including Attala. The project is being developed by Gulf South Pipeline Co., a subsidiary of Boardwalk Pipelines.
Plans call for about 111 miles of new 36-inch pipeline, along with three new or expanded compressor stations and several meter stations. Once completed, the pipeline could move up to 1.175 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day, supplying power plants and industrial users across the Southeast.
The pipeline route would cross Holmes, Attala, Leake, Newton, Jasper, and Clarke counties and connect with existing natural gas systems to improve regional supply and reliability.
FERC’s environmental review will study potential impacts on land, water, wildlife, and nearby communities. A draft environmental report is expected in April 2026, with a final decision possible in late 2026.
While the project has been placed in a federal fast-track permitting program, that designation does not guarantee approval.
Boardwalk Pipelines first announced the project in late 2024. If approved, it would be one of the largest recent energy infrastructure projects in Mississippi.
