The Leake County Sheriff’s Office is investigating reports of gunshots heard just after midnight on Tuesday, April 22, near Dr. Brantley Road near the Madden Country Store.
Two callers alerted authorities after hearing what was described as around 10 rapid-fire gunshots. One caller also reported seeing individuals running from the area shortly after the shots were heard, according to scanner traffic.
Deputies responded and patrolled the area, searching for any evidence of a possible shooting, and an investigator was notified.
Later that afternoon, around 12:45 p.m., deputies were called to the same area following a report of two suspicious males wearing hoodies walking around the Madden Country Store.
A deputy spotted two individuals matching the description, but when they turned around to make contact and identify them, the subjects had already disappeared. Law enforcement continued searching the area and nearby roads but were unable to locate the individuals.
