Inmate convicted in Neshoba County murder found dead in Rankin County prison cell

RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. – Alex Deaton, a convicted murderer, was found dead in his cell at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility on Saturday evening, according to Rankin County Coroner David Ruth.

Deaton, who pleaded guilty in 2018 to murder, drive-by shooting, and motor vehicle theft, was serving a life sentence.

In 2017, he was a fugitive wanted for two murders in Mississippi, including the killing of his girlfriend, Heather Robinson, and 69-year-old Brenda Pinter in a Neshoba County church, as well as crimes in New Mexico and Kansas.

An autopsy is underway to determine the cause of death.
