Mississippi residents affected by Winter Storm Fern have until Tuesday, June 10 to apply for federal financial assistance tied to the January 23–27, 2025 weather event (DR-4899).
The deadline applies statewide, including residents in Attala, Carroll, Choctaw, Holmes, Leake, Montgomery, Neshoba and Winston counties, which were among the 82 counties approved for FEMA assistance following the storm.
As of June 9, more than 84,000 Mississippians had registered for aid through FEMA’s Individual Assistance program. Officials report more than $126 million has already been distributed to eligible storm survivors.
Statewide, the highest number of registrations has come from Panola, Washington, and DeSoto counties, but officials emphasize that residents in all affected counties—including those in central and north Mississippi—may still be eligible if they have not yet applied.
In addition to individual assistance, FEMA’s Public Assistance program has approved more than $37 million so far for local governments, helping cover emergency response, cleanup, and debris removal costs. An additional $223 million in projects is currently moving through the review process.
To help communities manage upfront recovery expenses while awaiting federal reimbursement, state lawmakers also created a revolving loan program for counties and municipalities. As of June 9, 29 loans totaling nearly $40 million have been issued statewide.
Officials are encouraging residents who experienced damage or losses during Winter Storm Fern to submit applications before the June 10 deadline.
