It was a “moo-ving” evening for Leake County Deputies as they responded to multiple cattle calls across the area Monday night. The first call came in just before 6 p.m., with 3-4 cows enjoying a leisurely stroll down Hwy 35 S near Starling Center Rd.
At 8:30 p.m., the action shifted to Pilgrim Rest Rd., where a lone cow had taken to the roadway near Hwy 16. The final showdown came at 10 p.m. on Hwy 487 near Barnett Rd., where deputies once again had to intervene in the bovine escapades.
The escaped cow, who is apparently a repeat offender, walked back into its pasture when authorities arrived. Deputies reached out to the owner, who promised to fix the fence in the morning and assured the deputies he intends to sell the trouble-making cow. It seems this cow’s fence-hopping days are numbered—but until then, Leake County residents might want to keep an eye out.
