Light It. Lock It. Secure It: LCSO Encourages Nightly Security Routine

The Leake County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging residents to adopt a simple nightly security routine aimed at reducing crimes of opportunity.

The LCSO suggests taking a few minutes around 9 p.m. each evening to secure vehicles and property before turning in for the night.

The routine includes locking vehicles and bringing valuables like keys, firearms, purses inside. Residents should also check exterior lighting and security cameras and make sure garages, gates, sheds and storage areas are secured.

The Sheriff’s Office points out that an unlocked door or unsecured property can provide an opportunity for theft. Making these checks a nightly habit can add another layer of protection for homes and neighborhoods.

The message is simple: “Lock it. Light it. Secure it.”
