Local counties and municipalities are receiving money from the state to help train and equip their firefighters. The Fire Rebate Fund is financed with taxes paid on fire insurance policies. The allocations are based partly on population. In this area, Neshoba County is getting more than $162,000, Leake County about $127,000, Winston County more than $99,000, Attala County almost $93,000, Holmes County about $85,000, Carroll County about $81,000, Choctaw County over $66,000 and Montgomery County about $55,000.
Local municipalities will also benefit with Kosciusko and Philadelphia both getting about $52,000, Louisville more than $45,000, Carthage almost $38,000, Winona around $35,000, Durant about $20,000, Lexington, Tchula and Ackerman around $16,000 each, Goodman about $14,000, Carrollton around $11,000, Kilmichael about $10,000, Walnut Grove around $9,000, Ethel and Noxapater over $8,000 each, Lena about $7,000 and Sallis almost $7,000 from the Fire Rebate Fund for local fire protection.
