A man sentenced in Choctaw County to 15 years prison for conspiring to sell drugs is going free—thanks to Governor Reeves. For the first since taking office, Reeves is granting executive clemency and it’ll mean that Marcus Taylor will be released from prison because the sentence he received was too long. The State Court of Appeals has determined that five years in prison was the maximum at the time Taylor was sentenced in 2015 but the mistake wasn’t discovered until he had served 10 years. The governor says he’s commuting Taylor’s sentence to time served over what he calls “a miscarriage of justice”.
