The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced that several rest stops and welcome centers across North Mississippi will close due to extreme winter weather conditions.
The closures will begin Friday evening, January 23, and are expected to last through Wednesday, January 28, depending on weather conditions.
According to MDOT, the following welcome centers will be closed:

Lula Welcome Center

DeSoto County Welcome Center

Alcorn County Welcome Center

Itawamba County Welcome Center
In addition, MDOT will close several rest areas, including:

I-55 northbound rest area in DeSoto County
-
I-55 northbound and southbound rest areas in Panola County
-
I-55 southbound rest area in Vaiden
MDOT officials noted that while the facilities themselves will be closed, driveway entrances and parking lots will remain open during the closure period.

Drivers traveling during winter weather are urged to use caution and plan ahead as hazardous conditions may develop across the region.
