On Thursday, September 26, 2024, at approximately 11:45 p.m., the Mississippi
Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle fatal crash on Highway 17 in Holmes
County.
A 2005 Dodge Charger driven by 32-year-old Preston Nichelson of Pickens,
Mississippi, traveled north on Highway 17 when it collided with two horses
standing in the middle of the highway and overturned. Preston Nichelson
received fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene.
This crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
