MHP Out in Force During the Holiday Weekend

Expect to see some Highway Patrol safety checkpoints and increased patrols as you travel in Mississippi during the Labor Day weekend.  Trooper First Class Jose Watson says they’ll be looking for impaired drivers and people going too fast…

“We’ll be out trying to discourage speeders and those who may be running late for the barbeque.  We ask that you leave in plenty of time to reach your destination.”

And that goes for ballgames too, as the college football season gets underway this weekend…

“(We) encourage you to drive safely.  Make sure you put your cell phones down and concentrate on the road that’s ahead of you.”

Some new state troopers who’ve gone through a probationary period riding with field training officers will be on their own this weekend for the first time, helping to beef up the Labor Day patrols.
