Flu cases are spiking across much of the country, but not in Mississippi.  The State Health Department says our statewide flu rate is pretty stable.  For the week ending December 13th, medical providers across Mississippi reported that 2.6 per cent of their patients had flu-like symptoms, compared to 2.5 per cent the week before.   The flu rate in the public health district which includes Attala, Holmes, Carroll and Montgomery counties has dropped but remains elevated at over 12 per cent.  In the district which includes Winston and Choctaw counties, it’s now over 4 per cent and in the district which includes Leake and Neshoba counties, it’s down to 2 and a half per cent.

If you’re traveling this Christmas, you won’t have to go far to encounter higher flu activity.  Louisiana’s flu rate remains one of the highest in the country.  The CDC now classifies both Tennessee and Alabama as having moderate flu activity.
