The Leake County School District is officially moving into a new era as Leake High School launches its first school year under the district’s realignment plan.

In its first Facebook post, the school welcomed students, families, and the community to its new official page, calling it the approved source for news, announcements, and updates. The post also introduced the school’s identity as the Gators and highlighted its guiding themes of “Unity, Excellence, and Legacy.”

“As we begin this new chapter, we are excited to build on the strong traditions, values, and legacy that have shaped our schools for years,” the post read.

A second message from school leadership marked July 1, 2026 as the official start of Leake High School, recognizing both the excitement of a new beginning and the work ahead in building the school’s foundation.

Principal Kimberly Ricks said building the new school will take a community effort while keeping its legacy intact, with the goal of creating a supportive and challenging environment that prepares students for the future.

“The name may be new, but the legacy will always remain,” the statement said. “My goal is simple: to create a school where students feel supported, challenged, and prepared for their future.”

The launch comes as part of the district’s ongoing realignment plan, which includes the consolidation of high schools, the move of grades 6–8 to the junior high campus, and facility updates aimed at improving efficiency and expanding student opportunities.

Superintendent Will Russell said the changes are intended to strengthen long-term sustainability and support student success.

“These decisions were made thoughtfully and with a focus on long-term sustainability, educational excellence, and opportunity for every child,” Russell said.
