The storms which blew through Carroll County Sunday morning produced an EF-1 tornado. The National Weather Service surveyed the damage Monday and determined that the tornado touched down near the Valley Hill community, and was on the ground for more than 14 miles, crossing Highway 82, Highway 17 and Highway 35 with winds estimated at around 105 miles an hour, causing some tree and power line damage. As the storm system moved to the east, it hit Lowndes County with straight-line thunderstorm winds up to 65 miles an hour and a falling tree caused major damage to a home in the New Hope area.
