The animal rights organization, PETA, brought its “Hell on Wheels Pig Company” pig transport display to Carthage on Friday, April 24.

The truck was set up around noon near the Bakery and Cafe, featuring large graphics depicting pigs being transported to slaughter. Audio of squealing pigs was played on a continuous loop through external speakers to draw attention to animal welfare concerns. *audio below*

Next to the truck, a stand containing free vegan recipes was made available to the public.

It’s unclear if the display influenced any locals to adopt a vegan lifestyle. However, multiple people were seen walking by the exhibit carrying or consuming pork products in a show of disagreement with the message being presented.
