The Attala County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) is warning the public about a phone scam targeting local residents.
Scammers are spoofing the ACSO phone number, making it appear as though calls are coming from the sheriff’s office. The fraudulent callers claim to represent the ACSO and say that the recipient owes money, demanding immediate payment. The scammers may use threats of legal action to intimidate their targets into paying.
ACSO Investigator Scott Chunn warns that the Attala County Sheriff’s office will never call individuals to demand payment or request personal financial information over the phone. Any call like this is fraudulent and should be ignored.
If you receive a call like this, DO NOT provide personal or financial information and DO NOT make any payments. Hang up immediately and report the incident to the Attala County Sheriff’s Office at their official phone number (662-289-5556) to verify the legitimacy of any claims.
ACSO encourages residents to share this warning with family and friends to prevent others from falling victim to this scam. If you believe you have been targeted, please contact the ACSO directly at 662-289-5556 or visit their office in person for assistance.
