The Attala County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) is warning the public about a phone scam targeting local residents.

Scammers are calling or texting residents claiming to be from the sheriff’s office. The fraudsters say that the recipient owes money and demand payment. The scammers may use threats of legal action to intimidate their targets into paying.

Attala County Sheriff Curtis Pope warns that the sheriff’s office will never call anyone to demand payment or request personal financial information over the phone. Any call like this is fraudulent and should be ignored.
