If you don’t think you are getting the best broadband internet speed, the opportunity is open again to do a speed test to determine what speeds you are actually getting.
The Office of Broadband Expansion and Accessibility of Mississippi (BEAM) week 4 challenge process has started.
Residents wanting to complete the test only have until Sept. 2 to submit challenges.
Find out if you need to challenge by following the steps below:
- Check your address on the state broadband map at: www.beam.ms.gov
- Find your service level.
• Gray – high-speed internet is already reported to be available. If that is not your actual experience, you should participate in the Challenge Process. Only gray dots can be challenged.
• Pink (unserved) or blue dot (underserved) – your address will be included in the BEAD funding program.
• Green – an internet provider has already received a Federal grant to build service to your location. - In summary:
• If you are a gray dot and DISAGREE with the level of service represented at your home, you need to challenge your address.
• Pink, blue and green dots do not need to challenge.
BEAM says, in Mississippi, Leake County ranks third from the bottom in terms of broadband service with almost 74 per cent of serviceable locations either unserved or underserved. Neshoba County ranks fourth in terms of worst broadband availability with 62 per cent unserved or underserved. In Attala County, it’s 50 per cent.
The BEAM Office can be reached at 601-359-5029 or [email protected] for any questions.
At the end of week 3 BEAM had received challenges for 4,734 locations.
