Thieves Stopped with Hundreds of Dollars Worth of Merchandise in Carthage

Two Leflore County residents have been charged in connection with a shoplifting spree that spanned multiple businesses in Carthage and Leake County as well as one in Lexington.

The Carthage Police Department responded to a call reporting shoplifting at a local grocery store Saturday. A description of the suspects’ vehicle was provided and was later spotted by Leake County Sheriff’s Deputy Morgan Harper at another local business.

A traffic stop was conducted, and deputies recovered hundreds of dollars worth of stolen merchandise from the vehicle.

Investigators determined the suspects were responsible for thefts at four different businesses in Carthage and Leake County, as well as a grocery store in Lexington.

Both individuals have been charged with three counts of shoplifting. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
