NATCHEZ, Miss.–The field director for Congressman Bennie Thompson’s office for counties he serves in southwest Mississippi, has been fired for a post she made following the attempt on former Pres. Donald Trump’s life Saturday.
The Magnolia Tribune reported Jaqueline Marsaw’s dismissal, quoting Thomson in a short statement.
“I was made aware of a post made by a staff member and she is no longer in my employment.”
“I don’t condone violence but please get you some shooting lessons so you don’t miss next time ooops that wasn’t me talking,” read Marsaw’s Facebook post.
Thompson said on X Saturday shortly after 7 p.m. that he does not condone political violence. But, the Congressman, who represents the Delta and counties in central and southwest Mississippi, promoted a bill in April and May that would strip the former president of Secret Service protection, should he go to prison.
“The moment that person is convicted and given to the custody of authorities, they lose that protection,” he said in a panel on MSNBC. “Anyone in the highest seat of power would give second thoughts to some of the things they do if they understand that some of the trappings that go with this job could be lost.”
Thompson, Ranking Member on the House Homeland Security Committee, was also in charge of the Jan. 6 hearings and has maintained he believes Trump guilty of unlawful behavior on that date.
