The National Weather Service says a weak tornado touched down Monday night east of Ofahoma. An NWS survey team says the EF-zero storm was on the ground briefly with an estimated windspeed of 76 miles an hour, snapping one tree and uprooting another near Highway 16.
It was one of several tornadoes to hit Mississippi. An EF-1 tornado tracked 2.2 miles through Madison County with top winds of 95 miles an hour. It touched down near the Shoccoe community east of Canton cutting a 440-yard wide path of damage mostly to trees. A few small buildings also were damaged.
At least five other tornadoes have been confirmed in Simpson, Lincoln, Lawrence, Franklin and Smith counties. Also, a Louisiana tornado may have crossed the Mississippi River into Adams County.
